Nine years after traveling to Portugal, this time Lionel Baier takes us to Italy, in the weeks preceding the first pandemic lockdown, for a (bittersweet) comedic analysis of the migrant crisis and the EU’s attempt to handle it. As usual with the Swiss director, La dérive des continents (au sud) blends the larger theme with personal stories, primarily that of Nathalie Adler (Isabelle Carré), who tries to get her own life in order while dealing with a volatile socio-political work assignment.
