The 2021 edition, the first under the artistic direction of Giona A. Nazzaro, ended successfully and awarded the Pardo d’oro to SEPERTI DENDAM, RINDU HARUS DIBAYAR TUNTAS (Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash) di Edwin. Furthermore, to end the 74th edition of the Locarno Film Festival with a surprise, tonight on the Piazza Grande the great master Dario Argento will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work and his surprising acting in VORTEX by Gaspar Noé this evening in Piazza Grande.
The eleven days of the Festival have brought back the giant screen of the Piazza Grande and revived the unique experience of live cinema. With 209 films and 310 screenings, Locarno audiences were able to encounter the visionary genius of Phil Tippett, the lucid provocations of Gaspar Noé, the eclectic charm of Laetitia Casta, the dazzling imagery of Mamoru Hosoda and of the children of Locarno Kids, and the determination and courage of Gale Anne Hurd. The opening with Beckett and the closing with Respect marks the return of great popular narratives to one of the world's largest open-air venues.
