Welcome to the third edition of HomeMade Movies!

This year, we explore the power of our passions and how to transform them into compelling stories for the big screen. Alongside other young filmmakers, we’ll embark on a journey to discover what we love to do. By experimenting with various techniques and languages, we'll learn how to give shape to our ideas. This journey celebrates our inspirations and what makes us unique!

How do HomeMade Movies work?

Follow the expert video tips and get inspired by their stories.
Download the educational worksheets and start brainstorming your film, planning it step by step.
Unleash your creativity! Share your story and passions with a short film (maximum duration: 3 minutes) using your favorite techniques.
Share your passion. You can involve your class, your friends, or your family... Making a film is a team effort! Your role as a director, actor, photographer, or set designer will be even more exciting and fun if shared with others!
Learn and inspire others. HomeMade Movies is an educational program that will teach you lots of new things. You can be at the heart of this learning journey by sharing stories that inspire your classmates and friends, helping them discover new ideas. That’s why your film can also participate in the LernFilm Festival competition.
Once your film is complete, submit it via this link! We’ll take care of the rest.
All submitted films will be reviewed and evaluated by a jury. The best films and filmmakers will be awarded during the next edition of the Locarno Film Festival. We can’t wait to see you there!

If you want your movie to be considered for the competition of HomeMade Movies 2025 and have the opportunity to see it shown on the big screen during Locarno78 (August 6-16, 2025), make sure to send it to us by May 30, 2025. A new competition will later be reopened to get ready for the 2026 edition of the Festival.

Locarno Homemade Movies Collection

First Edition

Claude Barras, the Oscar-nominated director known for My Life as a Zucchini and recipient of the 2024 Locarno Kids Award La Mobiliare for Sauvage, collaborates with Swiss animators and youth education experts to guide children and young people in exploring the enchanting world of stop-motion animation. This unique opportunity allows participants to experiment with animation techniques and share their own stories, engaging families, friends, and classmates in the creative process!

The second edition of Locarno Kids HomeMade Movies is a journey to discover the hidden superpowers within each of us, transforming them step by step into a short film. Follow the experts’ advice and tell us about your fantastic transformation!
