Workshops and activities 2024

Frank Capra once said that film is one of the three universal languages (the other two being mathematics and music). We invite you to explore the intricacies of this rich language. Are you interested in learning how scenes are created and how to work with lighting, photography, and sound?

By participating in a workshop in the Locarno Kids program, you will receive a Locarno Kids pass that provides free access to screenings in the Locarno Kids Screening section upon reservation. The pass will be given to the participants on-site before the workshops begin.

Please note that most labs and activities will be in Italian. However, the educational staff will also be able to conduct the workshop in English, French or German by meeting the language needs of the participants.

Movie&Media Labs

Do you want to get into the film world but need to know where to start? Look no further than Movie&Media Labs! We offer eight different labs designed for various age groups (6-8, 9-14, 11-14), allowing you to explore the exciting world of filmmaking and hone your creativity. With access to video cameras, lighting, and special effects, you'll feel like a true professional in the art of filmmaking.

X-Labs

Explore the art of visual storytelling with two exciting workshops. These workshops will teach you how to create short films and literary trailers using semi-professional equipment and your smartphone. You will experiment with various shooting and editing techniques to transport your audience into fantastic worlds and compelling stories.

Film ab!

Discover the art of filmmaking at the filmkids workshop from August 12-16. Explore acting, directing, filming, sound, and editing with industry experts and collaborate to create a short film. The workshop is available in German, Italian, English, and French.

Casting Lab

Many kids dream of acting in a movie. How do you turn this dream into reality? In this workshop, organized with filmkids, you will learn how to approach a casting call and prepare yourself in the best possible way. In one day, Sira Topic and Christof Oswald, who have prepared many young actors and actresses for series and films, will reveal all the trade secrets! Friday, August 9th from 10 am to 4 pm.

So many stories are born from encounters! The atelier, in a special collaboration with Castellinaria, offers a creative and playful experience designed to bring out the uniqueness and talents of children. Each participant will freely create a small, unique, and personal book using simple materials. August 17, 2.30-4pm.

Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of the world's most important film events! This year, Cinemagia will once again take you "Behind the Scenes" of the Locarno Film Festival. Explore hidden locations and meet the festival's key figures. August 13-14.

Kids Corner

There is a particular area for the youngest guests attending the Locarno Film Festival: the Locarno Kids Corner! This friendly space is situated at the Preschool—Scuola dell’Infanzia—and is open from August 8th to 17th, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
