Ken Loach

Ken Loach è nato nel 1936 a Nuneaton. Ha frequentato la King Edward VI Grammar School e ha proseguito la sua formazione studiando legge alla St. Peter's Hall di Oxford. Dopo un breve periodo in teatro, nel 1963 è stato assunto dalla BBC come regista televisivo. Ciò ha dato avvio a una lunga carriera di regista di film per la televisione e il cinema, da Cathy Come Home (1966) e Kes (1969) a Terra e libertà (1995), Sweet Sixteen (2002), The Wind That Shakes the Barley (Palma d'oro al Festival di Cannes nel 2006), Il mio amico Eric (2009), La 'parte' degli angeli (2012), Io, Daniel Blake (Palma d'oro al Festival di Cannes e Prix du Public UBS al Locarno Film Festival nel 2016) e Sorry We Missed You (2019).

After a brief spell in the theatre, Loach was recruited by the BBC in 1963 as a television director. This launched a long career directing films for television and the cinema, from Cathy Come Home (1966) and Kes (1969) to Land and Freedom (1995), Sweet Sixteen (2002), The Wind That Shakes the Barley (Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2006), Looking for Eric (2009), The Angels’ Share (2012), I, Daniel Blake (Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival and Prix du Public UBS at Locarno Film Festival in 2016) and Sorry We Missed You (2019).
