Daniel Schmid (1941-2006) was a Swiss theatre and film director and writer. In 1982, his film Hécate was entered into the 33rd Berlin International Film Festival. His film Beresina or The Last Days of Switzerland was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. His best-known films include Shadow of Angels (1976), written with Rainer W. Fassbinder and starring the German director, Tosca’s Kiss (1984) and Jenatsch (1987). Schmid was awarded the Pardo d’onore alla carriera at the 1999 Locarno Film Festival.
