Gus Van Sant is an American director, painter, screenwriter, photographer and musician from Louisville, Kentucky, acclaimed as both an independent and mainstream filmmaker. He’s known for directing films such as Drugstore Cowboy (1989), My Own Private Idaho (1991), the 1998 remake of Psycho, Elephant (2003), Paranoid Park (2007) and Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot (2018). He directed two films which won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay: Good Will Hunting (1997) and Milk (2008).
