“Tomorrow”: A Workshop with Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel

Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel are the mentors for this year’s edition of the Spring Academy (23 February – 3 March, 2025).

The Spring Academy is organised by the Locarno Film Festival and CISA (International Academy of Audiovisual Sciences), in collaboration with the Ticino Film Commission and with the support of RSI Radiotelevisione svizzera and the Hotel du Lac.

Want to Participate in the 2025 Edition? Follow These Steps

1: Send Your Application

Send your application using the online form, enclosing the following documents:

Portfolio/CV in PDF format
Digital photograph (portrait)
Letter of motivation (max. 2,000 characters including spaces) in PDF format. The letter should include the topics you would like to explore during the creation of your short film

Application deadline: Wednesday, January 8, 2025 (14:00 CET)
Cost of registration: 15 CHF

2: Receive a Response

The selection process will close on January 20, 2025. By that date, all applicants will receive an e-mail informing them of the success or failure of their application.

3: Confirm Your Intention to Participate

Successful applicants are required to confirm their intention to participate by the deadline indicated in the email indicating their selection. By confirming their participation, the selected filmmakers accept the obligation to pay the participation fee by January 26, 2025.

The organizers reserve the right to replace selected candidates who do not confirm their participation or do not make payment by the deadline.

4: Pay the Participation Fee

The participation fee of CHF 1,700 includes:

the workshop with tutoring by Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel;
the provision by CISA of the necessary technical equipment and logistical support;
advice on location and casting (for fiction subjects) from the Ticino Film Commission;
accommodation in a shared double room (including breakfast and tax) from 23 February (check-in) to 3 March (check-out);
lunch and dinner from 23 February to 2 March (the next day will be the departure day);
accreditation for the 78th Locarno Film Festival (6-16 August, 2025);
lodging for ten nights, 6-16 August, 2025, at BaseCamp (eight-bed dorms with shared bathrooms)

The participation fee does not include:

travel arrangements and costs to and from Locarno;
alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and any other extras not included in the lunch and dinner menu.

Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel

Caroline Poggi was born in Ajaccio in 1990. She studied in Paris VII and then at the University of Corsica. Jonathan Vinel was born in Toulouse in 1988 and studied editing at Fémis. They have made several films, separately and then together, including the short films Tant qu'il nous reste des fusils à pompe (As Long as Shotguns Remain), which won the Golden Bear at the 2014 Berlinale, and After School Knife Fight (2017), which was selected at the Festival du Film de Cabourg. Their first feature Jessica Forever (2018) was selected at TIFF and the Berlinale. Their second, Eat the Night, was screened in the Director's Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
