In view of the COVID-19 emergency and its effect on the organization of public events, the Executive Board of the Locarno Film Festival, under the Presidency of Marco Solari, met remotely on Thursday 9 April and examined possible scenarios for the Festival in the near future. As we wait to learn what arrangements will be made by cantonal and federal authorities, the Festival administration is working with its partners to identify the most suitable solution to the current context.
The Presidency, Artistic Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Locarno Film Festival are aware of how difficult it is, in this moment of great complexity, to fully foresee the future horizon. Deeming it crucial to continue to fulfill its commitment and responsibility to the public, directors, cinematographic works, the partners and the region, the Festival is seeking to maintain what has always been the event’s principal goal: to make Locarno a place of encounter and discovery.
Therefore, the Executive Board of the Festival, with the artistic and operations departments, is studying various scenarios and considering all possible variations, while waiting to submit them to the Board of Governors who will discuss them during the month of April. In due course the Locarno Film Festival will provide further updates regarding the organization of the next edition.
The Locarno Film Festival would like to express its solidarity with participants in the film industry who have had to forsake events that are often decisive for the sector, and would like to remind everyone that its website and official social media pages offer daily suggestions for viewing films from online streaming platforms.
