Born in Locarno in 1953, Luigi Pedrazzini graduated in law from the University of Zurich, before becoming editor-in-chief of the Ticino newspaper 'Popolo e Libertà' and President of the Management Board of Società Elettrica Sopracenerina. After a long and successful political career, first as a member of the Grand Council of Ticino (Parliament; 1979-1995), and later as a member of the State Council of Ticino (Government; 1999-2011) as well as President of the State Council (in 2000, 2007 and 2010) and of the Conference of Cantonal Governments (2001-2005), from 2012 to 2023 he was President of SRG SSR Svizzera Italiana Corsi and Vice-Chairman of the SRG SSR Board of Directors.
A former member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Post and of the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (Cantonal Hospital Board), he is currently Vice President of the Il Gabbiano Foundation and of the Valle Bavona Foundation. As a lawyer, Pedrazzini works within the law firm Lorenza Pedrazzini Ghisla.
In 2023, he was elected Vice President of the Locarno Film Festival.
