Diversity & Inclusion
We are committed to ensuring that our Festival is diverse, inclusive, and accessible to everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, ability or religion. This commitment is fundamental to our mission to uphold the dignity and independence of all individuals.
As a place of encounter and dialogue, we welcome everyone into a community that thrives on freedom of expression and the convergence of diverse ideas. We recognize the unique needs of each individual and our team is here to ensure that the Festival experience is accessible to all.
Our aim is to make all the services and programs provided by the Locarno Film Festival enjoyable for all participants, while respecting their individual needs.
Global Perspectives: We aim to expand the vision of our viewers, inspiring them and challenging their conventions and prejudices, by presenting films from all over the world that foster understanding between cultures and human beings. Our programming includes artists from various backgrounds, cultures, and disciplines, ensuring that our participants have a platform to share their unique experiences and insights.
Community of Encounters: We are a land of encounters, sensitive to social changes: we welcome people into a community that draws its strength and its uniqueness from the free exchange of ideas, the flowing together of very different creative inputs, and where diversity and minority voices find a safe space to express themselves.
Empowering Young Generation: in line with our heritage, our aim is that our event is accessible to all age groups, with particular consideration for young talent who may lack experience or established industry networks. Our overarching mission is to empower these emerging talents by allowing them enhanced skill development opportunities and possibilities to enter the industry.
Ensuring Accessibility: We are devoted to making our event inclusive for all. This commitment includes offering detailed and accurate information on the accessibility of all our locations and providing support for individuals with disabilities, supporting people with disabilities to ensure that they can participate in the Festival in the most enjoyable way possible.
Promoting Gender Balance: We are committed to promoting gender equality in the film industry. We aim to achieve gender balance in our selection committees, juries, mentoring programs, program participants, speakers, and guests.
Nurturing Dialogue: We believe that the most innovative discussions are those that consider the present, acknowledge the past, and envision the future. We encourage open and respectful dialogue.
Screening Venues: 10 out of 13 screening venues are accessible to people with reduced mobility, 2 are partially accessible. Each film is programmed at least once in one of the accessible venues. We are continually working to evaluate and improve the accessibility of our venues.
Audio Description: Currently available in French and/or German for selected films as listed in the official Festival program. Audio descriptions are available on the application Greta, in collaboration with Regards Neufs.
Relaxed Screenings: We offer relaxed screenings in a smaller, more accommodating venue. During these screenings, the lights remain low, the volume is slightly reduced, and attendees are free to move, make noise, or leave and return to the room as needed without concern for disturbing others.
Tailored assistance: The entire Locarno Film Festival team is always available to help with specific requests and needs.
Festival Team: 57.4% of the staff that makes the realization of the event possible are women, showcasing our commitment to equal opportunities.
Selection Committees: The two official committees that select feature and short films are gender-balanced, consisting of 4 men and 5 women.
Juries: The official juries that select the winning films of the 77th edition are composed of 8 women (including the Jury President of the Concorso Internazionale) and 9 men.
