Locarno U30 LATAM
U30 is a program aimed at film professionals under the age of 30 who have participated in an edition of the Locarno Industry Academy during the years since it has been active. Its Latin American iteration, U30 LatAm, is aimed at young professionals who have participated in one of the Locarno Industry Academy LatAm sessions in Chile (Australab), Brazil (BrLab), Costa Rica (MAUCC), Colombia (BAM & Proimagenes) or Mexico (Ficunam). The event, an integral part of Locarno's industry program Locarno Pro, focuses on listening to and highlighting the perspectives of those who are working and thinking about the future of the Latin American film industry in a period of significant change.
For the first time, U30 LatAm will be an integral part of the José Ignacio International Film Festival 2024 (JIIFF) in Uruguay, taking place January 17 to 21, 2024. Framed within JIIFF’s industry space, Working JIFF, U30 LatAm will represent a unique opportunity to explore new ideas and dialogues in the Latin American and global film industry. For this pilot edition, six participants will be selected: three from Uruguay and three from other Latin American countries.
JIIFF is an International Film Festival that takes place during the high summer season in the most exclusive seaside resort in Uruguay and the region. For a week, JIIFF screens – in exceptional locations – a selection of the best international cinema and Uruguayan short films as well as hosting boutique industry and networking activities. Working JIIFF, its industry program, focuses on training young generations of filmmakers, developing feature film projects, inspiring co-productions and nurturing discussions about the future of cinema.
