1976. Death threats force Maria, a Guatemalan rebel activist fighting against the corrupt military dictatorship, to flee to Mexico, leaving behind her son. 10 years later, when he comes to live with her, she is forced to choose between her duties as a mother and continuing her revolutionary activism.

Fare questo film ha significato confrontarsi con la ribellione armata di mia madre, pur restando una madre. Gli attivisti si dedicano anima e corpo alle trasformazioni sociali, ma non hanno spazio per svolgere il ruolo di genitori.
Faire ce film, c’était me confronter au fait que ma mère mène une lutte armée, tout en étant une mère. Les activistes consacrent leur vie à changer la société, mais ils n’ont souvent pas la place pour assumer leur rôle de parent.
Making this film meant confronting the armed struggle waged by my mother and the fact of her being a mother. Activists dedicate their lives to societal transformation, but there is often no room to fulfill their roles as parents.
