Semaine de la Critique

The Semaine de la Critique is an independent section, created in 1990 by the Swiss Association of Film Journalists in partnership with the Locarno Film Festival. Every year, the Semaine de la Critique showcases seven documentary features, all world or international premieres. The section promotes these innovative films whose themes and styles diverge from conventional trends. These are auteur films that strive to explore different realities, as well as push the boundaries of their audiovisual representation. They are bold, sometimes rough-edged works, always seeking to spark debate on our world and how it is perceived.

Every year the Semaine de la Critique shows seven documentary feature films as world or international premieres. The section focuses on innovative films on the brink of the mainstream – both formally and content wise.

Bold films which open up new perspectives and which provoke a debate. The goal is to bring together a wide range of different works, each with a unique vision.
