Locarno Spring Academy 2022
As a filmmaker, Moona Pennanen is dedicated to exploring the changing nature and hidden history of places through the lens of anthropological filmmaking. By making films, she wants to reveal the hybrid layers of places that would otherwise remain unknown. Moona Pennanen’s latest film, The Land That Rises and Descends (2021), is a short documentary depicting the unstable nature of the Kvarken archipelago, its myths and local traditions, and the threats they face. The film premiered in Visions du Réel and is currently screening at various film festivals around the world.
The Spring Academy is an invaluable opportunity for me to engage in new creative dialogues. During the Academy, I’m interested in challenging myself to think how I can harness my skills as a filmmaker in a meaningful way and within a shorter time frame of the filmmaking process.
