Maria Giménez Cavallo, born in New York in 1992 to an Italian-American mother and Spanish father, graduated from Columbia University in Film Studies with a thesis on Le quattro volte. She moved to Paris to work with Abdellatif Kechiche as artistic collaborator, assistant director, casting director, and editor for the Mektoub, My Love trilogy. Maria later moved to Rome to collaborate with Pietro Marcello, Alice Rohrwacher, and Francesco Munzi on set and in the editing room for a 16mm documentary throughout Italy, Futura, and continues to assist Pietro on his French film L’Envol. She has since made a few short films which depict the poetry of nature with non-human protagonists (animafilms.net).
I would like to further develop a poetic, transcendental, and post-humanist vision that makes visible the invisible and reveals the spirit of all things, essentially, a “cinema dell’anima”. There is no better festival than Locarno, and no finer mentor than Frammartino, to guide me in this exploration.
