William Cameron Menzies (1896 – 1957) è stato un pioniere nella scenografia – tanto da inventare il titolo di “production designer” – e un regista americano. Come scenografo è stato determinante nella progettazione e allestimento di set e sequenze leggendari in film come Il ladro di Baghdad (1924), Via col vento (1939) e Io ti salverò di Alfred Hitchcock (1945). Come regista si è specializzato nel cinema drammatico, con film quali Minaccia (1934) e Address Unknown (1944), e in quello di genere (La vita futura, 1936, e Gli invasori spaziali, 1953).
