George Cukor (1899 – 1983) ha iniziato a lavorare in teatro, per poi approdare alla Paramount come dialoghista e imponendosi ben presto come regista. Ha firmato i primi grandi successi alla RKO, a cui era passato nel frattempo. Il suo nome si è consolidato negli anni Trenta con film come Davide Copperfield (1935), Il diavolo è femmina (1935), Donne (1939) e Scandalo a Filadelfia (1940). Maestro della commedia, ha diretto anche musical popolarissimi quali È nata una stella (1954) e My Fair Lady (1964), che gli è valso l’Oscar per la miglior regia.

He firmly established himself in the 1930s with films like David Copperfield (1935), Sylvia Scarlett (1935), The Women (1939), and The Philadelphia Story (1940). Recognized for his mastery of comedy, Cukor also directed the hit screen musicals A Star Is Born (1954) and My Fair Lady (1964), which won him an Academy Award for Best Director.
