There are birthday parties you can continually postpone, if fate allows you to meet Bruno Ganz. His presence here is mysterious, due to that gallantry that seems so out of time. And, not coincidentally, it is the passage of time that provides the backbone for the conversations between the main character, Giulia, and the stranger who asks her out to dinner. The Locarno audience was moved by the Swiss film Giulias Verschwinden, the 2009 Prix du Public UBS winner, which shows that entering the world of old age can lead to the discovery of invisible universes.
