Sometimes cinema is also made of great faces, that appear on the screen and immediately become unforgettable, because their facial expressions carry the marks of the greatest conflicts that occur throughout the world, like in the Middle east. The extraordinary Palestinian actress Hiam Abbass plays the older sister of a bride-to-be, only the wedding is taking place in a war zone and requires a great price to pay: exile from one’s own family. We follow Hiam Abbass and the other protagonists of The Syrian Bride, 2004’s Prix du Public UBS, and we laugh. But the laughter is destined to become progressively more bitter.
