There are great films that give us access to the great tragedies of history, and they do so thanks to talented actors like Friedrich Mühe. In the masterpiece that is Das Leben der Anderen he plays a Stasi spy, and his interceptions dictate the thriller-like pace that takes us through Cold War Germany. Then, sadly, human tragedies replace the historical ones: Ulrich Mühe was present in Locarno in 2006 when the film won the Prix du Public UBS, but died prematurely before he could witness the Best Foreign Language win at the Oscars in 2007…
