During a summer in Berlin, a family begins to suffer from a strange phenomenon of collective insomnia. Omar and Simon drift apart, forgetting who they used to be. Layla and Mira, their daughters, try to realise who they are, living the first experiences that will shape everything that follows. The insomnia spreads through their bodies, one by one, like a virus. Searching for peace and answers, they decide to travel to a remote island.
Remote Islands is a film that takes as its starting point a mysterious phenomenon of collective insomnia within a family to talk about how its members affect and infect each other, perpetuating traumas and fears that spread like a virus.
